The Background
Procter Contracts was commissioned to provide temporary fencing and hoarding for the Velindre Cancer Centre project in Cardiff.
The brief required:
-
A secure, durable boundary for the construction site
-
Recyclable, sustainable materials to meet BREEAM, CEEQUAL, and Considerate Constructor standards
-
Adaptability to uneven site conditions and minimal disruption to surrounding community
The scope included 45 linear metres of hoarding, featuring two 8m double-leaf gates using our modular Pro-Long Hoarding system, designed for reuse across future projects.
The Solution
Procter Contracts developed a bespoke Pro-Long Hoarding system to address the project’s sustainability, safety, and aesthetic requirements:
-
Materials: 100% recycled plastic panels with steel joint strips and galvanized steel pelmets
-
Modular design: Lightweight 6mm panels allowed rapid assembly and adaptability to uneven ground
-
Additional features: Built-in cable containment, acoustic properties, options for lighting, CCTV integration, and corporate branding or promotional graphics
-
Sustainability: Panels are reusable and fully recyclable, supporting a closed-loop lifecycle and reducing the project’s environmental impact
The modular system provided both functionality and visual appeal, creating a professional boundary that enhanced site presentation while meeting strict environmental and safety standards.
Key challenges included:
-
Tight project timelines and rigorous environmental criteria
-
Uneven ground requiring flexible and stable installation
-
Ensuring ease of installation and relocation without compromising security
Procter Contracts collaborated closely with Pritchards, maintaining regular communication to align the Pro-Long Hoarding system with operational goals and sustainability targets.
